A Happenin' Funeral and the Dead is a Mouse

Does this phrase make sense to you? I didn't make sense to us either, but I promise there's a point...

We are now to the point in language where we can learn expressions. At first we were annoyed until we started to think of all of the things we say in English that would make absolutely no sense if you were learning the language:

"I've got a bone to pick with you"

"This is the last straw"

"That's a piece of cake"

"You crack me up"

And there's plenty more. Just spend a day thinking about what you say and whethere or not it makes sense. So, we're going to play a fun game. I'm going to list some expressions that we learned here and you see if you can figure out the English equivalent. For example, the "dead mouse" one from the title is "Much ado about nothing". Here are some of our favorites:

"I fell the first fall last night"

"What's in the past is dead"

"Well, it's time for me to catch the road"

"The days went and the days came"

"When you bury him, you don't visit him"

Another confusing thing that we struggle with here is how much words sound the same as each other, but are completely different. For example, the words "Friday", "Association", "Mosque", "To Gather", and "University" all are very similar. It's kind of like the words "Present (here)", "Present (gift)" and "Prison" as our teacher explained to us. The word is either the same and you have to look at the context or the pronunciation is just a little bit different. It's tough.

The point of all this is that when Blake went to the bank the other day, he's not sure if he asked for seven thousand d's, lion thousand d's, or finger thousand d's. He got what he asked for so he must have gotten it right!
