Moving Day, Visitors, and Daylight Savings Time, I Think?

Here are a few pictures from around the city.

Yesterday we moved into a new apartment! We had been anxiously awaiting our new move. Our last place was good but it was very far away from the center of town. The move was certainly an adventure. Gary and I were left to handle all the details. Move are usually a big event but your first one in a foreign country with no one to fall back on for translation. But actually Gary and I did very good with the language and it felt good to know that we could handle a large process like this in another language. We certainly have come a long ways since January. One interesting event happened while we were moving. I had forgoten my keys to our apartment so one of the movers offered to give me a ride on his motorcycle I agreed foolishly. People on motorcycles here tend to cut in front of cars and in between cars and basically wherever they can fit. And this guy was certainly no different. My knees were jutting out from the sides of the motorcycle as I held onto the small grips connected to the side of my seat. And of course no helmet, I actually found this odd because the guy driving had a helmet and he wore it. This said to me that either he didn't trust his own drtiving and was putting his safety over mine or that he thought that the mostly like crash we would sustain would be flipping over the front in which case my fall would be cushioned by landing on him. Either way I was not consoled by his action. After, about a mile a found myself getting used to the ride until he decided to pass a car that was going to slow for his liking. My knee came so close to hitting the side of the car he was trying to pass that I actually was stunned a little after we passed that it hadn't in fact hit the car. Needless to say in the end I survived the ride. It was one of the moments when I stopped and said to myself I really am in another world.

We are looking forward to next month when Carol's parents and sister will be visiting us. Also, Gary's parents are coming at the end of July and then Bradyn's after that because she is getting ever so closer to that having her second daughteer. We are looking forward to not only see them but also because it will give us a little break from language study.

Also, daylight savings started here today and a lot of people tend to be following it. Last year was the first year they ever tried daylight savings and everyone said it was a mess because some places observed it and some people didn't. And everyone time you asked someone what time it was or tried to establish a time to meet you would have to say now is that the new time or the old time. I hope it works better this year because that could get confusing
