Man or Foot?

In case you were wondering, Bradyn and I are human and make mistakes. Instead of posting about my own language error, I'll post one of hers! I'm sure she won't mind!

The first week of class, we learned the word for man/husband: Rajl. This week, we learned the word for foot: Rjl. That's the tricky part about this language. So many words sound the same, but have completely different meanings. Even our teachers don't understand what we are trying to say.

So we were in class on Monday and were practicing sentences with the verb "to cut". Bradyn was trying to say "I cut my husband's hair." Our teacher looked at her like she was crazy and then just kind of laughed it off. Bradyn kept pressing because she didn't know if it was the wrong use of the word or what. Finally, we figured out that our teacher heard "I cut my foot hair." At least Bradyn learned that lesson in class instead of out in the street! It was definately a good Monday belly laugh.
