A Tasty Sandwich and a Dead Dog...It's the Little Things

Every day when we go to class, our teacher's ask us how we are doing and what we did the previous day. Over time, our language skills have improved and we're able to say more in Arabic and less in English.

For the past two months, we have answered with things like "We saw a donkey cart out of control" and "We got lost in the old city" and "I saw a whole family riding on one scooter". But, I think we're past the honeymoon stage. These things are now part of our every day lives. We see crazy things, but we're used to them so they aren't the first things that come to mind when someone asks us what we did yesterday.

Well, here are the responses we had from yesterday. When asked what he did that morning, Gary answered "I had an awesome sandwich today". We then spent about five minutes talking about where to find the smoked turkey and the best sandwich bread we can find. My response was "The street cleaners came and got rid of the dead dog on our route to catch a taxi." It had been there for about a week and was starting to get disgusting. But yesterday it was gone and we were excited!

We are past the big things and are now learning how to appreciate a good sandwich and the ability to not feel sick to my stomach every time I leave my house! So here's to the little things!
